Filing a Petition

If you believe your property assessment or exemption status is incorrect, you may file a petition with the Value Adjustment Board (VAB).

File Online

At this time, the online petition filing portal for the 2026 tax cycle is under construction. You may file your petition using one of the alternative methods below.

The Value Adjustment Board will charge a fee of $15 for filing a petition pursuant to statutory guidelines. If you choose to file an electronic petition, there will be an applicable convenience fee in addition to the filing fee. Please see the table below for convenience fees.

Fees

There is a $45.00 filing fee for each separate parcel of real property or tangible personal property. There is a $15.00 filing fee for portability petitions.

Multiple Appeals for Same Parcel

If you have more than one appeal, i.e. homestead and a low-income senior exemption, for the same parcel, only one filing fee is required. However, you must fill out a separate petition for each appeal.

Joint Petitions

For joint petitions, there is an additional $5.00 filing fee for each additional separate parcel covered by the joint petition. Certain rules apply for filing a joint petition. Please contact the Clerk to the Value Adjustment Board before filing a joint petition.
